Seven senior members of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi have been inducted into the Ghana Young Academy (GhYA) during the Academy’s 9th induction ceremony.
A total of 23 early- to mid-career researchers from across the country were inducted into the Academy, with seven of them representing KNUST.
The inductees include Dr. Isaac Amoah and Dr. Seth Domfeh from the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, Dr. John-Lewis Zinia Zaukuu and Dr. Nana Baah Pepra-Ameyaw from the Department of Food Science and Technology, Dr. David O. Nartey from the Department of Environmental Science, Dr. Akyana Britwum from the Department of Physics, Dr Frank Idan of Animal Science and Dr. Eric Kojo Nsa Oduro from the University Hospital.
The induction ceremony was attended by four executives from the College of Science, KNUST, including Dr. Kwadwo Owusu Akuffo (Department of Optometry and Visual Science), Dr. David Azanu (Department of Environmental Science), Dr. Cyril Boateng (Department of Physics), and Prof. Jacob K. Agbenorhevi (Department of Food Science and Technology).
The event also featured the presence of Prof. Christian Agyare, Provost of the College of Health Sciences and a founding member of the Academy, and Priscilla Kolibea Mante, a past co-chair and alumna of the Academy.
During the ceremony, inductees were encouraged to be purposeful scholars whose research contributes not only to academic publications but also to national development and meaningful impact in the lives of Ghanaians.
The Ghana Young Academy, the youth wing of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences, was officially launched in 2014 with support from the Royal Society and Pfizer.
It aims to foster collaboration between young and senior scientists, promote science, technology, innovation, and mathematics careers, and provide a platform for young scientists to contribute to national and international scientific challenges.
